Whether you’re a teacher looking to expand your classroom library, a student trying to dodge the high price of books, just somebody that wants a good read, or anything in between, the Bookie’s Paperbacks & More is happy to get you what you need.
Located between Western and Artesian on 103rd, Bookie’s is nestled in Chicago’s West Beverly neighborhood. Since our debut in 1989, we’ve diversified our stock to include gifts, games, puzzles, audiobooks, new bestselling books, and much more.
We still have what started it all: new and used children’s books, mystery, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, classics, history, biography, sports, cookbooks, self-help, and just about everything else. If whatever you’re looking for isn’t in stock, but it’s in print, we can order it for you at no additional charge. Additionally, bulk orders are welcome, whether you’re a teacher, adminstrator, book club, or looking to pass a favorite to everyone in your family.
Bookie’s has everything from out-of-print science fiction novels and mysteries, to the newest bestseller by James Patterson. On the same shelves that you can find Neil Gaiman’s mind-bending fantasy works, you can find big hits like The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo or the Twilight series. If you’ve already read those, turn a corner and catch up on those classics by Dickens and Hemingway that you always wanted to read, but never had the time for. Even if those choices don’t tickle your fancy, browse a little more: you’ll find comics and graphic novels, books on arts and crafts, and an interesting selection of humor books. If you need your fingers on the pulse of the world, we have sections on current events, business and management, and more.
In times like these, you can stand to save every dollar possible. Our everyday prices for used books are usually half the original retail price or more, and we offer new bestsellers at 25% off. We also have shelves of 3 for $1 books; romance, mystery, general fiction, and children’s titles.
Are your shelves at home packed to the brim? Bring in your gently used books for discounts. The Bookie’s offers a trade-in program that’ll get you big discounts: 40% off our already marked-down used merchandise, 10% off most new items, and 25% off all new bestsellers. If you can’t help but hang on to your books, we also take CDs, DVDs, and audiobooks.
Bookie’s also carries games (ranging from Chicago-opoly to Left Right Center), read-aloud beginner books, coloring books, book lights, and puzzles for adults and children, making them a fantastic spot if you’re looking for a unique gift.
Our vast selection of children’s books takes up an entire wall. It’s organized by grade level, making it easy for a child or parent to browse. They have award winners from Caldecott to Newberry and classroom sets for teachers.
In support of small businesses and the individual, we do our best to stock items often missed by or unavailable to the big box stores; and we carry many books by Chicago authors — lots of which have seen limited release.
Since the change of ownership in 2006, we have made many changes and improvements to the store. Since then we have been featured in Chicago Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, The Southtown Star, The Beverly Review and The Villager.
